About the artwork
Lee Jung Woong paints his trademark brushes using Chinese ink and oil paint on Korean rice paper, composing them with such precision that his paintings constitute hyper-realism. Lee's artworks empower his paintbrushes with a life of their own. The hand that made the mark, or may once have held the brush is invisible; instead the viewer is invited to meditate upon the brush and its expressive, abstract action - a splatter, splotch, stroke, or field of ink on paper. Lee has an exceptional sense of color and grasp of form, which allows him to create realistic shading for his images. There is extreme precision in the painting of the hairs of the brush, as well as impeccable levels of polish and color blending against a roughly painted background. These are Lee Jung Woong’s trademarks and cemented his route to international recognition.
