About the artwork

In this whimsical and playful sculpture of a child riding atop a warm stuffed bear, Xi Ai Ge’s mastery of creating clean lines in her sculptures and her minimalistic style shines through. In her Toy series, Xi Ai Ge was inspired by personal experiences of growing up in the mountains where she had little access to stuffed toys. Fueled by a nostalgia for a childhood she did not have, she created the comforting character of the stuffed bear as a companion for the child who is gleefully riding on its shoulders, bringing across feelings of warmth and affection.
