About the artwork
In his series of paintings titled ‘Kampong Life’, Lim Tze Peng paints a long-forgotten sight in Singapore by paying tribute to the humble kampong where families lived together in a community full of ‘gotong royong’ or kampong spirit. This work brings together Lim Tze Peng’s signature Art-calligraphy style with his unique perspective, having grown up in a kampong himself. Lim’s bold calligraphic lines, masterful technique of creating texture and his subtle highlights of colour is a testament to his skill. ‘Kampung Life IV’ depicts a villager standing near a well while a family sits outside their home in the background. As if suspended in time, this work brings to life the serenity of the 60s and 70s while brimming with nostalgia and emotion.
