About the artwork

(羞童 )Chen Wen Ling never fails to bring a whimsical and playful tone to sculpture, while at the same time, maintaining his stance as a sophisticated artist with his unique figurative style. Chen Wen Ling's "Shy Boy" captures a complex blend of innocence and sly humor. The boy, rendered with exaggerated features, covers his privates in a gesture of mock shyness, while a mischievous grin spreads across his face. This juxtaposition creates a sense of playful ambiguity, inviting viewers to question the nature of childhood and societal expectations. The smooth, polished surface of the sculpture enhances the boy's youthful form, while the exaggerated pose and expression add a layer of satirical commentary, exploring themes of vulnerability and performative innocence.
