About the artwork

Jl 15/6 Resonating colour as if emanating from within the canvas itself, Hono Sun's recurring subject of children leave their tight rope an effortless game as they cavort upon it, heedless of any loads of fear of falling. A visual celebration of the nature of children, the artist focuses not only on their innocence or their playful nature, but the complete lack of fear held within them- a trait that adults yearn for or pursue for most of their lives.

About the artist

Born in 1977 in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, Hono Sun is an award-winning artist who specializes in Surrealist imagery, bold strokes and evocative colours. As a pluralist, the artist often brings in elements of Cubism and Fauvism, with a focus on painterly qualities over representation. Employing a striking color palette, the artist often uses contrasts between vivid colours to create visual impact and enhance the fantastical elements of his work. Conceptually, the artist uses representational subjects and juxtaposes them in a manner more akin to the abstract, allowing the audience to ponder upon his alluded social issues and layered emotions behind subject, colour and stroke.
