About the artwork

In the popular plein-air practice, a number of practitioners have the ability to capture the explicit details and atmospheric light of the scene before them through visual rendering with enthralling watercolour effects. Ong moves beyond this to explore new possibilities which transform his work from pieces of impressive virtuosity to pieces that connect with various facets of life: cultural, historical, social, emotional and environmental. Two sets of railways ran through Singapore in the past, with the North-South line that stemmed from Padang Besar and ran along the western coast of Malaysia to Singapore - operated by Malaysia railway operator Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM).
