About the artwork

Refer ally Artist Statement: Landscape along Little India is part of the urban landscape series. This aims to reconsider and reconfigure the idea of traditional Chinese ink landscape painting where buildings replaced mountains and were rearranged to form an urban landscape. As such it employs the traditional format of a Tong Jing通景 – scenery depiction through 3 panels. A sub-theme of this 2013 series is the juxtaposition of old with new. Here flats in Chander Road and Veerasamy Road were arranged with old shop houses along Kerbau Road. Whereas the old shop houses will most likely be preserved in years to come, the flats will probably be demolished within the next 50 years in Singapore.
