About the artwork

In the desire to incorporate human and natural elements into his work, Bahk Seonghi depicts architectural forms - something exclusive to human qualifications, with pure natural elements. The importance of charcoal is indisputable in Bahk’s work, as he believes the individual delicate pieces he uses in his installations to be the foundations of natural life. By composing them to our recognisable objects and constructs, Bahk draws parallels between man and nature, poetically evincing the balance and connections between them. Above this representation of harmonious existence, Bahk also expounds the idea that nature embeds its presence and influence in all of man’s works, as we are ultimately part of nature.
