About the artwork

Not unlike Van Gogh’s famous Starry Night, in this vivid work by Eva Armisen the landscape almost seems to come alive. Armisen uses numerous short brushstrokes to depict grass in a field, creating a pulsating visual rhythm, furthered by the numerous curved lines of the road which convey a sense of energy and guide the eye to the house in the background. Two young girls are foregrounded in the painting, dominating the composition through their strong vertical lines. The thick brushstrokes Armisen uses to paint their dresses creates a fascinating texture in which the viewer is almost able to feel the texture and quality of the material, while their vivid red colour heightens the vibrancy of the work. Through her unique child-like style, Armisen creates an evocative work that encapsulates the excitement and wonders that nighttime can bring.
