About the artwork
Island dreams convey Ronnie Ford's magnificent projections of the modern desire to flee from the cacophony of everyday life into the calm, vast, meditative spaces of the natural world. This is achieved via the use of muted tones of blues and greens, a stark contrast to the vibrancy of colours in his other works. The composition draws attention to the house in the middle of the work, an impression from Ford's childhood when he would climb to the top of the trees to reign over the forest and catch the glimpse of a distant house.
