About the artwork

Bahk Seonghi’s works utilise forms, light, and space to evoke different emotions and feelings. The artists favour charcoal for its dark black colour, a pronounced contrast as the individual pieces are backed against the white installation space. The quality of the material itself induces negative and morose emotions, with light and the white spaces introducing a counterbalance, harmonising the elements. Some might consider this approach as influence from the Chinese philosophy of yin and yang, or the artist’s pursuit to create forms that convey sentiments through the play of three-dimensional positive and negative spaces. Bahk portrays a sequence of five water droplets, depicting a sense of motion and progression.
