Artist Statement: "Throwing caution to the wind in a blaze of colour and character!"
Kendall Perkins-Brakels has a long list of sell-out exhibitions and a unique style that has become highly collectable with a technicoloured trail that leads all the way back to her home in Buderim on the beautiful Sunshine Coast.
Kendall's art is represented in public and private collections world wide and has represented Australia in key Asian markets. In India, Kendall was invited to paint live on location for an Australian showcase called "The Downunder Feast" with live painting performances across New Delhi, Bangalore and Mumbai. In January 2005 Kendall was Australia's official artist in residence at "The Australia Day" showcase in Seoul, South Korea and in March of the same year, she had a sell-out exhibition in Singapore as an artist in residence in the "Best of Australia" showcase. Kendall was also given the official title of "Australia's Goodwill Ambassador" to Seoul, an honour bestowed on her by the Australian High Commission. Her art has also toured Toronto, Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Guangzhou and exhibited and painted "live" for Tourism Australia, Tourism Queensland, Austrade and The Office of the Australian Consulate General.
A progressive and aggressive artist that has exploded onto the Australian art scene in a blaze of colour and character, her works feature a diverse range of images from her vibrant signature flowers to major and complex cityscapes capturing chaos and control. The Hon Matt Foley MP Minister for the Arts (2003) said of Kendall - I am sure many would be familiar with Ms Kendall Perkins-Brakels work, it is as distinctive as it is colourful and ranges from beach and cityscapes to vibrant flower designs. Kendall brings a sense of irreverence and fun to her works that appeal to a wide audience. Her art and business approach sit at the intersection of the culture and leisure industries and she is succeeding on her own terms. Kendall is an entrepreneurial woman. She has exhibited extensively, and, through hard work, business acumen and a wonderful product, has successfully carved out a niche for herself in the contemporary art market.
Striking viewers at first glance, her heavily-textured oils are a heady explosion celebrating the very essence of life. Employing a fast and furious technique, her works brim with colour, resulting in works that both exude and prompt emotion. Kendall's energetic works throb with the vibrancy of Queensland and express a vivacious, highly-individualistc style. Inspired by the natural and urban beauty that surrounds her, her works feature Australian motifs of marine living, native flora and fauna that instantly resonate with Australians and draw in other keen collectors.
When asked why people seem to love her artworks Kendall replies:
" I think my works have a "feel good factor" and people buy then because they make them feel happy and alive!! I absolutely love and am passionate about what I do, I'm always changing and evolvolving. I have always prided myself in being an INNOVATOR not an imitator, I create a quality product at a reasonable price that is always appreciating in value. I like to keep my work diverse so that there is always something for everyone . I NEVER set out to be Rembrandt and I never take myself too seriously!!"
Kendall is a full-time, professional artist with a refreshing attitude, with the confidence of a modern woman that makes no compromise on her artistic outlook. Constantly evolving her works, collectors await each new series as Kendall has always prided herself as "an innovator not an imitator" always throwing caution to the wind as she creates each new body of work. Visit a Kendall exhibition and you’ll find out what all the excitement is about.
With her success in the art world Kendall keeps her feet on the ground by continually helping out charitable organisations such as the Smith Family, Princess Alexandra Hospital, Royal Women’s Hospital Brisbane, Queensland Cancer Fund, Leukaemia Foundation, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Royal Children Hospital, Cerebral Palsy League, Abused Child Trust, Queensland Arts In Health, Salvation Army, St Vincent’s Hospital, Toowoomba Base Hospital, St Vincent De Paul Society, to name just a few. Kendall believes that being able to paint is a gift, a gift that should be shared.
