Biography

Lee, Jiyen

Born in 1979, Korea, Lee gained B.A. in Fine Art at Hong-Ik University, Korea in 2005 and M.A in Fine Art at Goldsmiths, University of London, UK in 2010.

Before shown in his first solo exhibition in Seoul in 2011, Lee's artwork has been exhibited in countries including China and UK. The group exhibitions include the "Collage of Memory" Beijing, China and "2010 Art Edition" Busan, Korea and "MFA Degree Show, Goldsmith Ben Pimlott Building" London, UK.

Artist Note

Through a dismantling of space, a real space turns into an imaginary space, and the people within it, existing between anonymity and individuality, create a great rhythm. Like in the saying that “all things in the universe commune together as one,” the people in these photographs resonate within a time and space that has no beginning or end. In her works, many different places in the world reappear as a conceptual space between utopia and dystopia, and ultimately these different spaces will come together to create another, larger space
