Biography

Born in Changchun, Jilin Province, China in 1983, Cai Lei graduated from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2009. Through his works, Cai Lei hopes to express his personal feelings which is directly reflected from his pieces, without much explanation needed. He seeks to explore and create the reality in his works, of which must contain vivid and truthful feelings, and most importantly, they must not tell lies or be deliberate and artificial.

The inspiration of his many works comes from his personal experiences, feelings and his own interpretation of life. Cai Lei believes that by submerging life into the artwork itself, or even into a specific part of it, allows his works to emit a truth, as only the genuine can conquer the heart and stir the soul, and hence, be able to resonate with the viewers.

In his pursuit to create art from true feelings, he realizes that the beauty of life can take many forms, it can be a kind of attitude, yet it can also be a kind of state. However, personally, he felt that the works of art of life is to live the attention of interpretation. In order to find a kind of artistic language, Cai Lei is very specific from the form to the direction of materials used to create his realistic works.

Keeping up with recent exploration, he uses the soft leather material to show the old physical form. He believes that sculpture art material qualifies itself for the attention is clear, the so-called “Universal Harmony Reid and truth”. The audience with the natural medium of communication presages a transparent qualitative self. The formation of leather from the end of life, with leather creation also gives leather a new life. Materials on the artworks again, regenerates, and its carrier communication touches the viewer. The artistic image reflects artist’s spirit and through this, reproduces life and explains life. Thus, the use of appropriate material is important to Cai Lei and his works, and he believes that using the correct material or medium works like a smoke to the soul of human body, and helps to arouse people to re-examine the rightness of life, the truth, the real art of living life from our true feelings.
