Acil

Acil graduated from Sarjanawiyata Tamansiswa University Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Born in 1972, Acil has taken part in numerous group exhibitions in Indonesia. In this series of works, Acil expounds on the pursuit towards the perfection of ideas - symbolised by the poignant numerical "9". Throughout the mythology and aspirations of many generations before and present, the numerical "9" represents attainment of the highest form of achievement; a harmonisation of all that is ideal. The human gestation period is nine months and therefore, fittingly so, in some schools of thought, "9" is the eternal number of human immortality and the totality of the human being. The surrealistic style adopted by Acil reflects a conscious choice to depict works rich in philosophical context and to encourage viewers to enter a deeper consciousness that parallels our everyday world.
